職場英語口語：Secretary都是秘書嗎？

　　說起辦公室里的Secretary，可能我們第一反應出的意思都是秘書，不過下面這個句子要注意了：

　　"I chose the tall secretary where mother sat so oftenwriting letters by a sunny window."

　　譯這句話時要格外小心，否則就會把tall secretary譯成了高個子秘書，豈不鬧出笑話?其實"secretary"在這里是一種書寫的桌子，一般上面還附有一個小書架，所以全話的意思是：我選擇了那個高大的寫字桌，過去，每逢陽光明媚的日子，媽媽常坐在窗前的桌旁寫信。

　　"Secretary"的意思還是很多的，除了常見的“秘書”之外，它還是“書記”。

　　"the GeneralSecretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China."

　　中共中央總書記

　　"Secretary of aprovincial Party Committee.

　　省委書記

　　"書記處是"secretariat",它是"secretary"的變體。

　　秘書長的順序正好和總書記倒過來，是"sec—retary—general", 如聯合國秘書長是"the Secretary General of the United Nations."

　　可還有許多職務從中文字面看并沒有“秘書”字樣，但英語仍需用"Secretary "，如美國國務卿(the Secretary of State)、財政部長(the Secretary of Treasury)、教育部長(the Secretary of Education)、國防部長(the Secretary of Defense)等.
